Designed by New York City-based firm Resolution:4 Architecture, the three-bedroom, 2,048-square-foot dwelling was completed in 2008 for a Washington, D.C.-area family who wanted a remote but comfy weekend retreat that can double as a by-the-night rental house.

The streamlined, cedar-clad "Lost River Modern", essentially a 16-foot wide by 24-foot long box, places a master bedroom, kitchen, living/dining area on the main floor, and additional bedrooms and a family room in the lower level.
