Three men were arrested on July 25 after Johnson County Sheriff’s deputies said they responded to a call of three men attempting to load a storage building from the caller’s property and discovered the men were in possession of a stolen truck, a firearm and suspected methamphetamine.

The citation said JCSO Deputy Jeff Castle arrived at the McCarty Branch residence and made contact with the three men, identified as Raymond Kevin Roman, 48, of Rocky Hill Road, Staffordsville, Michael Feryl Hall, 43, of Meade Branch, Prestonsburg, and Jason Curtis, 42, of Slate Branch, Staffordsville, as they were attempting to jack up the building to load it.

Castle inquired as to what the men were doing, the citation said, and was told by Roman that he had paid someone $400 for the building and had brought Hall and Curtis to help him load it. Castle said in the citation that he then advised the men that the owners of the building had not sold it to anyone and to lower the building back down off of the jacks.

After the group lowered the building back down, Castle asked Roman about the truck he was driving, and learned through dispatch that the vehicle had been reported stolen from Lexington, the citation said. Roman said he had “traded for it,” Castle wrote

Castle detained the trio, the citation said, and began to search the vehicle, finding a backpack in the passenger side floorboard alleged to belong to Hall. The backpack contained a black case with plastic bags containing a white, crystalline substance and glass pipes, according to the citation.

The driver’s side door pocket also contained a loaded 9mm handgun and extra ammo and, the citation said, another black plastic box was found under the back seat, containing a “large amount” of the white crystal substance and more plastic bags.

Hall and Roman both had cash in their wallets, according to the citation.

Curtis was charged with first-degree possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine). Hall was charged with first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance (methamphetamine), possession of drug paraphernalia and first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance (date rape drug). Roman was charged with first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance (methamphetamine), possession of drug paraphernalia, first-degree possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of marijuana, auto theft and possession of a prescription drug not in a proper container.

All three were lodged in the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center, where they remained as of presstime July 26.
